Celebrating its 90th anniversary Kanagawa University has contributed to the development and prosperity of society by producing skilled graduates who have entered the business and other fields. The University has evinced keen interest in Student Exchange Programme. A team from the Kanagawa University visited CHRIST in early 2018 to explore the possibilities of further collaborations and academic exchanges. A draft of the MOU has been exchanged with the visiting team which would be finalised in due course.

Delegation from the University of Leicester 2018 (International Studies, Political Science And History)

Time: 11-1 pm
Venue: Conference Room, Central Block, Christ (Deemed to be University)A delegation comprising Dr PrashanthKidambi and Dr Ruth Young from the University of Leicester visited the Department of International Studies and History on 24 July 2018. All the Department’s faculty were in attendance. After the initial presentations of each institutions, the discussion centred on various academic collaboration. The main areas for collaboration identified were: collaborative research, student exchanges, participation in distance learning, twining programmes, joint consultancy projects, visiting fellowships and doctoral and post-doctoral opportunities for students. The visiting delegation expressed satisfaction at the outcome and has agreed to have follow-up meetings and sign a memorandum of understanding. The delegation also called on the Pro-Vice Chancellor and the Head of the University’s Foreign Cell.

Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi 2018 (International Studies, Political Science And History)
The Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi is an autonomous think-tank dealing with national security and conceptual aspects of land warfare, including conventional, sub-conventional conflict and terrorism. CLAWS has been providing internship opportunity to the students of the Department every summer. CLAWS and the Department collaborated in the academic year 2015-16 on a conference on ‘National Security’ held at Christ Central campus, Bangalore.

Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS), New Delhi 2018 (International Studies, Political Science And History)
The Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS) is an autonomous defence research and analysis body for studies, research and focused analyses of issues related to national security, defence, and aerospace issues in the evolving strategic and international security environment. CAPS has been offering internship to the students of the Department every summer. CAPS and the Department, along with NIAS have come together for hosting a national seminar on ‘Nuclear India: Revisiting Issues, Challenges and Threats’ at Christ in August 2017.

The department has collaboration with Hanns Seidel Foundation India on following areas:

Indian Council of World Affairs,New Delhi- June 2020 (International Studies, Political Science And History)
On June 2020, Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed To Be University) has signed an MoU with Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi, which has been declared as an institution of national importance in 2001 by an Act of the Parliament. This MoU partnership has been concluded for joint events, capacity buildings, internships, awareness creation etc.

Ashoka University – Harvard Yenching Institute -July 2020 (International Studies, Political Science And History)
The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed To Be University) signed a MoU with Ashoka University – Harvard Yenching Institute. This MoU is to build academic and research resources on China Studies and related areas as a thriving discipline. It will also enable the department to create new knowledge in India about different countries, particularly on China. The MoU will help the department to provide promising scholars studying China with the opportunity to share their work and knowledge with a wider audience through Lectures, Courses, and Publications and enhance research opportunities for young post-doctoral scholars. As per the provisions of the MoU, CHRIST will enrol and host postdoctoral fellow(s) selected through China Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme in collaboration with Ashoka. The Parties of MoU shall collaborate on knowledge exchange and joint study by the Faculty Members/Research Fellows of their designated Departments of relevant discipline leading to joint publications, joint conferences/workshops and student/staff exchanges
This collaboration with Ashoka University – Harvard Yenching Institute is a new addition to the department list of collaborations with other premier institutions.

The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History focuses on high-quality research and has implemented successful research practices to promote research-based teaching-learning and knowledge production.
The department is active in research, primarily in the areas of International Relations, Political Science and History. Our faculty members are well established and well recognized researchers in their areas of specialization. The presence of research-oriented teaching and learning, nurtures the ambience for quality that facilitates constructive discussions, fruitful deliberations and critical evaluation of the projects that help the aspiring researchers to produce quality output.
1. Publications
1.1 Journal Articles:
As per the University policy, the faculties are expected to publish minimum 2 research articles in Scopus indexed journals in an academic year. The Ph. D research scholars need to publish minimum 2 research articles in Scopus indexed journals before thesis submission.
The Department faculty would also identify promising manuscripts of student dissertations to convert them into joint journal articles. The Department has introduced compulsory research paper for its Masters students that would ensue in publications in peer reviewed journals.
1.2 Popular Writings:
It is agreed that each faculty member of the Department will write at least one article per semester (two articles per academic year) in the popular domain. Such articles would be based on current events or topical interests.
The popular domain includes newspapers, websites of think tanks and online/print magazines.
1. 3. Books:
The Department faculty will also strive to bring out larger versions of academic publications like books and monographs. Those faculty members who have not converted their PhDs/MPhils would do so in due course. The faculty also would make efforts in bringing out edited books in turns by collation of articles from experts within or outside the Department.
2. Collaboration
2.1 Internal Collaboration
Other than the expert clusters the faculty are free to collaborate with any faculty member depending on the need for collaboration. The faculty members are also encouraged to collaborate with students or faculty of other departments. Each cluster is expected to develop its own plan of action on research projects and publications.
2.2 External Collaboration
There are three broad sources for external collaborations:
- Government: Ministries, Funding bodies like ICSSR, UGC; Think Tanks like IDSA, ICWA, CLAWS, and USI.
- Private: Corporates like Harman/Samsung and Tata; Funding bodies like KAS and private think tanks like Carnegie India.
- International: Universities like Shanghai International Studies University; Funding bodies like United States Institution of Peace (USIP); and Think Tanks like Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS).
3. Consultancy
Consultancy for the department is being looked at two levels:
At the individual level, an opportunity at Wikistrat, a cloud source consulting firm based in UK, has been identified. The faculty will be included based on their interest.
At the Department level, it is important to project the specialization of the Department. In this regard, it has been agreed that South Asia and Maritime Studies has been identified as areas of expertise.
